Symptoms and treatment of anxiety
Jun 12th
Anxiety is part of our everyday lives. With work, or school, family commitments, children, social gatherings, and many many more problems, it is easy for people to feel as if they are being overloaded with anxiety.
Luckily though, your life doesn’t have to be owned by anxiety. To know if you suffer from anxiety, you must look for the signs.
The signs for anxiety are numerous. They include: Sleeping problems, muscle pain, headaches, feelings of sadness for no apparent reason, loss of appetite, increased anger or moodiness, feelings of hopelessness, agitation, and stomach discomfort are some of the signs to watch out for to help identify if someone is suffering from anxiety. Looking at a person and how they act can really help you discover if they have an anxiety problem. If someone you know is acting different, try and find out if there is a lot of stress in their life. Maybe something terrible has happened to them, or else they may just be afraid. Simply watching people can’t always show if they are having anxiety problems though. Some people hide it well. In these cases, it is best to just remind those close to you that you are there for them if they need anything.
What about yourself though? The best advice is to trust yourself. If you don’t feel OK, or feel like something is wrong, or you display some of the above signs of anxiety, then trust yourself. One of the biggest problems people have with getting help for their anxiety disorders is that they tell themselves they are being stupid, or believe that seeking treatment for such things is wrong. This stigma of our society must be overcome. Mental illness is just as serious as any physical illness, but for some reason people think if they are struggling with their mind, there must be something wrong with them. This is not true! If you do not feel OK, the best thing you can do is seek help. What do you have to lose? Maybe hearing someone say you are OK is all you need to feel better. Or in most cases, it will turn out you have a chemical imbalance that can be corrected.
There are many kinds of anxiety though, and not all are chemical imbalances. We all feel nervous when we speak in front of large groups of people, but some have this same fear with anything to do with other people. This is social anxiety. Other forms of anxiety arise from traumatic events, such as getting worried when getting on a plane after hearing about a plane crash. These are anxiety attacks. Luckily, there is help for all kinds of anxiety.
Going to see a doctor is the best first step you can take. In many cases anxiety problems can be managed and cured from here, either with medication or referrals to other help. Not all forms can be helped this easily though. Meditation can help one deal with anxiety. Take deep breaths, and try to empty your mind. Think of a flowing river, or a bird flying through the sky, or anything to take your mind off of what causes you to have anxiety. Talking is also a really great way to help. Get out what has you worried, and it will help you deal with your anxiety.
The bottom line is don’t ignore it. If you, or someone else you know seems to be suffering from anxiety, get help. No one can handle everything alone, and when plagued with anxiety, even everyday tasks become much harder to deal with. Seeking help is the best way to deal with anxiety of any form, and needing help isn’t a bad thing. And getting help is certainly better than living with anxiety.
